Did you use H&R Block, TaxAct or TaxSlayer to prepare your taxes online?
Members of Congress have identified that Tax preparation companies shared extraordinarily sensitive personal and financial information about their users with Meta.
What’s Going On?
Tax preparation companies used computer code, called pixels, to send sensitive user data to third party companies, like Meta, which used that data for profiling users and for targeted advertising purposes.
In addition to the full contact details of users, data shared includes taxpayer filing status, approximate gross income, approximate refund amount, names of dependents, types of income claimed, tax credits, and deductions.
What Can You Do?
If you used any of these companies to prepare your tax filing online, you can take action by completing the form on this site and joining us in seeking compensation for users who were harmed by H&R Block, TaxAct and TaxSlayer’s business practices.
What Am I Signing Up For, Exactly?
H&R Block, TaxAct and TaxSlayer all have an arbitration agreement in their Terms & Conditions, which means that any issues arising from use of their services must handled outside of court through a process called arbitration.
Since thousands of people have been negatively impacted by the same issue at the same time, Attorneys at Kopelowitz Ostrow Ferguson Weiselberg Gilbert are presenting these claims for resolution as a mass arbitration. This is similar to a class action lawsuit, but handled outside of court.
How Much Does This Cost?
It costs nothing to sign up, and you will only need to pay if the attorneys win money on your behalf. Their payment will come as a percentage of your award. If they don’t win your claim, you don’t have to pay anything.
